Let me be the second! Happy New Year. Hope schools workers everywhere are having some good chillaxing time before the new term begins. Here’s to a fantastic year of seeing transformation, growth, renewal and hope in the lives of young people we work with. Cheers!
Another story that might be appropriate is the story of a black South African woman who has forgiven and befriended a white South African policeman who tortured and murdered her husband and son.

Hope this might help.
One that springs to mind is a story that is about 2 brothers...read about it here. It might need simplyfying a bit for primary, but it’s a really powerful question...imagine if the two brothers had made up their differences and not opted for retaliation...they would have been a force to be reckoned with! And the thought that we sometimes fall into the trap of trying to get our own back, when often if we talk things through and work out our differences, everyone can benefit…
Hi Tom, there was a picture that one of the team put together...however on reflection we didn’t want to scare people away from the site ;). And yep, this isn’t the last you’ve seen of the Murphy. Blessings.
Response to the exhibition has been incredible. Lots of people have been through during the week, and we have had to open up for an extra day tomorrow. Here are some pictures on the BBC news website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/7775107.stm.
I am just retired as a University Chaplain and lecturer and I believe this gives a clue to finding a very helpful resources based on ‘story telling’ for many who teach in our schools. Personal stories are very useful and need to be there to back up more intellectual arguments.
Howard.

SCHOOLS NEWS Jan/1

Welcome back to the new term! Here’s a few news features to re-engage you with the world of education in 2009.
slogan for life
Just catching up with a few news items I saw before Christmas, and this one caught my eye. It looked at the advertising slogans that we use as part of our everyday life. Apparently more than 45 per cent of Britons regularly use the line from the Guinness commercials “Good things come to those who wait”. It just goes to show the power of a catchy slogan and how much you apply it to other parts of life. How many times have you used “it does what it says on the tin”?! Read on more for the top ten advertising slogans we regularly use…
One word can change everything.
Need an assembly idea for the new year? How about taking the latest Jim Carrey movie ‘Yes Man’ and exploring the idea of getting the right balance between saying yes and no…
nice cup of tea and a biscuit
One of the things I did over the Christmas holidays was to sit around and not do very much...excellent! While at one relative’s house, I was perusing the coffee table and found a fab little book called ‘Nice cup of tea and a biscuit’. Now maybe it was the fact that it was the holidays and the change of gear had warped my humour, but this little book cracked me up. Here’s a bit that made me giggle (and a tenuous link to schoolswork!)…
Here’s to 2009
So let me be the first to wish everyone a great 2009. May your assemblies be riveting, your dodgy tech equipment work faultlessly, may there be no pupil interruptions or bad introductions and may RE teachers everywhere look upon you with eternal respect and love. Well, something like that anyway.
Happy Christmas!
A very happy Christmas to all our members and visitors to the site.
May God bless you and give you a peaceful and happy Christmas time.
We’re signing off for a few days, see you in 2009!

Christmas Clips
An email just came through reminding me of the clips available at the fab Wing Clips site, so thought I’d pass it on. If you’re looking for last minute festive films or a short clip to use in a lesson/assembly/group/other you might just find something here.
