Schoolswork Playing Cards Review
Posted on March 09, 2012 by Amy Tolmie
These playing cards are fantastic! Now, that may be a very brash and persuasive comment, but that is plainly and simply how I truly feel about these playing cards.
I saw them for the first time on my first day, when being briefed for going on the schoolswork.co.uk stand at a PAIS conference the next day. They are a normal pack of cards, except that each card has a different question on it on a huge variety of different topics. One example: “Would you rather go a week without brushing your teeth or two weeks without taking a shower?†That is quite an amusing one, however, the topics range from humorous; to taking about God and religion; to thinking about your own day-to-day life.
When talking to schools and youth workers who have used these cards in different clubs and cafes, they have always said they work brilliantly. Often the young people, with or without a leader, will pick up the pack of cards and start playing any card game. It is usually after a certain amount of time that the young people will realise or take note of the questions. The questions are a superb way of starting conversations with those new to the clubs or even those who have been for years. They are a great way of having a laugh and getting to know each other, but it is also a great way to go a bit deeper and a way to explore God and Church; “If you could, would you rather know with all certainty that God does or doesn't exist?â€
There are primary and secondary school aged packs. The primary school aged packs (green) have a bigger font and slightly simpler questions; the secondary school aged packs (orange) have a smaller font and have deeper and more thought-provoking questions. They are also brilliant to do magic tricks with; check out these films to learn how to perform some; they are pretty easy to learn, and are a fantastic way to attract young people to play.
