In the spirited poetry competition 2 years ago, 8 year old Nicholas wrote this on the theme 'Where is God?':

God is everywhere
God is where the sea meets the land
And where the land joins the sky
Where sky ends and storm starts
And where earth becomes space
God is everywhere

"It was one of thousands of exciting entries that showed the ways RE and poetry can connect. NATRE is pleased to announce that a new 'Spirited Poetry' competition, coinciding with National Poetry Day in autumn 2008. There will be five themes to choose from, and entries are open to pupils from 5-19."

Themes for this year are:
• I am
• Mystery of Life
• Windows on the Soul
• Looking for God
• Questions, questions

Closing date is 1st December 2008. Think through if this is something you can run in RE lessons, or maybe just with a few students you chat with regularly who love asking the deep questions. Use these great initiatives like Spirited Poetry to help the children and young people you work with along on their journeys of exploration.
