Lahna Pottle, our 16-19s Specialist, shares the new exciting things coming to SchoolsworkUK in 2017 and shares her hopes for this New Year.

A Happy New Year to you all! Christmas is over, the decorations are slowly being taken down, and we are waking from our slumbers to trudge back to work. Despite the usual warnings of January depression, there seems to be a real feeling of hope as we enter into this new year. For a whole lot of different reasons many people across the world found 2016 to be a really tough year, and so 2017 has become somewhat of a light at the end of the tunnel; a hope for a better, brighter future.

Here at SchoolsworkUK we are passionate about creating a supportive and inspiring sense of community between schools workers. Whether it feels like it all the time or not, we are blessed to be supporting and nurturing the future generations to come, and what a huge opportunity that is.

Particularly considering the chaos and sadness that many of our students and young people may feel surrounded by, we remain passionate as ever that the Church is to be a hope and light in our local Schools, Sixth Forms and Colleges. We want to help inspire and equip the schools workers across this nation and help build a supportive environment between them.

This New Year, we have a few brand new tools and resources that we hope will help do just that.

16-19s Hub

Since I joined SchoolsworkUK in 2016 as the 16-19s specialist I was really keen to create a space on the website dedicated to those working in Sixth Form Colleges and Further Education Colleges. We have been working to develop a space that contains our existing resources, blog posts, and events calendar which are aimed at those working with 16-19 year olds. And it is finally here! You can find the tab link to it at the top of the SchoolsworkUK homepage or you can click the link here: www.schoolwork.co.uk/16-19s

We are also really keen to hear from you and so if you have any questions or suggestions please get in contact using the question box in the 16-19s hub. Likewise please always feel free to leave comments and feedback on our blogs, in the comments section at the bottom of a blog post. We would love to hear from you and get to know those of you visiting our website.

Breathe Website

To go along with the brand new 16-19s hub on the website, we have also updated the "Breathe Resource" webpage. Breathe is one of our most popular resources aimed at 16-19 year olds. The website has been updated and now sits within the schoolswork.co.uk website making it easier to find and share. You can find it through the 16-19s hub, by expanding the Breathe info box and clicking on the link, or you can view it by clicking the link here: www.schoolswork.co.uk/breathe

On this new webpage you can find out about the resource, read reviews from students, teachers and schools workers who have used it, see where your nearest Breathe kit is, and enquire about hiring or buying a kit.

New Resources

High on our agenda is creating helpful resources that will equip schools workers and enable them to engage with students even more effectively. Now with a full time 16-19s specialist, SchoolsworkUK is going to be producing more resources aimed at this age range so watch this space for more innovative resources coming your way in 2017!

In case you missed it, over the Advent season we released a new video resource for 16-19 year olds called "Jesus: Truth or Fairytale?" The video aims to help young people to wrestle with the true meaning of Christmas. It asks the question, "what if this isn't just a fairytale that we repeat each year? What if God really came to town?" If you haven't seen the video yet, you can click here to watch it on our YouTube channel.

schoolsworkUK Equipping Days

Over the Spring and Summer Terms we are delighted to bring you our new training programme, designed to be flexible and accessible to meet your needs. We have five days between January and June, 2017, hosted at our new Youthscape building in Luton, which will also be live streamed to a location in Leeds. This is a pilot programme of a new course set to launch in September 2017, streaming to multiple sites around the country. We want you to be able to access high quality training without having to travel too many miles, that challenges you to think deeper and more creatively about your work in schools at all sorts of levels. You can find out information about the first five days here, or if you're not sure about your training needs, you may find our short quiz helpful, which highlights a variety of different training opportunities.

The National Youth Ministry Weekend

Coming to 2017 from Youthscape is a very exciting new event. It's all a little under wraps for now, but save the date of 10th-12th November and you can register here for updates.

We are entering into this year hopeful and committed to our calling to reach out into schools, helping to reveal God's love to those we meet.  We are so excited to journey with you all, please do say hi!

Best wishes,

Lahna
