Meet David: Our new Christian Schools Work Specialist

Posted on May 23, 2018 by David Walford

My name is David Walford and I have just started a new role as the Youthscape’s Christian Schools Work Specialist, which means that I will be working within SchoolsworkUK. I have just finished a BA in Theology and Youth Ministry and moved to Luton around nine months ago, having grown up in South-East London. I have done youth work in one form or another for the last six years and my faith and relationship with God is at the core of everything I do and the reason I care so much about seeing young people’s lives transformed.

I fully believe that schools not only play an important part in the community, but also in young people’s lives. It is the place where they spend their most formative years and if you are anything like me, it has a huge influence on how the world looks growing up. So, in my role, it is an absolute pleasure to be able to spend my time on the ground doing schools work in Luton as well as playing my part to equip schools workers across the country. I would love to see youth workers, chaplains and mentors engaging in new and creative ways in their local schools and communities and can’t wait to hear about all the amazing work you are all doing.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions, and it would genuinely be great to hear what you are doing across the country.

Finally, because I know there is a lot of wisdom in the room, I have a question for you all about those beginning schools work: What is one bit of advice you would give to someone who is just about to start doing youth work in a school in their area?

Speak soon,

a piece of advice: Enjoy. Relationships and Flexibility are KEY. The biggest single piece of advice I'd like to share for my self and any others is to learn from others AND be you, yourself and no-one else. Be a cif or tea-strainer. Happy to unpack this more if of any use. Thanks
