Breathe

Large Group Spirituality Resource

Visit the BRAND NEW Breathe webpage here.

Breathe is a resource for the spiritual development of 16-19 year olds, encouraging them to explore and consider themes of belief, journey and values through a series of interactive, experiential meditations and activities.

Using an iPod, students follow 12 short mp3s with corresponding activities to guide their thinking. These, along with the simple practical tasks, make breathe an ideal resource for all types of learner, providing something to satisfy the visual, audio and kinaesthetic minds.
Whilst the meditation texts offer a Christian perspective on these questions, the resource is designed for use in a multi-faith environment, taking care not to offend, nor enforce beliefs on anyone who may use it.

Small Group Spirituality Resource

Visit the Open Webpage here.

Open is a small group resource that looks at eight themes; Meaning, Values, Purpose, Forgiveness, Death, Responsibility, Questions and Hypocrisy. Each theme uses a practical activity to open up the topic, with an mp3 introducing the subject, raising some open questions and introducing some relevant thinking and wisdom from Christianity too. Each Open box can be used with up to 6 young people, and a set of boxes can be used with a whole class.

The resource is specifically written for use in a multi-faith school environment, and as such is carefully crafted to be accessible to pupils from any faith background. There's space in each session for students to listen, reason and respond to the material, whether they agree or disagree with what they hear.

Rage, Hope & Despair

Engaging with Emotions Resource

See our Rage, Hope & Despair range of resources in the Youthscape Store here

22 pieces of art by Si Smith take students through the biblical story of Job. A story filled with depictions of rage, despair and hope; three emotions 16-19 year olds are all too familiar with.

The DVD is accompanied by an audio narrative, exploring the emotions and events in the story in an accessible and engaging way. Included are lesson materials looking at existentialism, wisdom and comparing the story of Job in Christian, Jewish and Islamic texts, and workshops offering a creative response to rage, hope and despair through poetry, art, music, rap and drama.

Meet Lahna: Our New 16-19s Specialist

June 30, 2016 by Lahna Pottle
Categories: 16-19s, Other,

Hello, I'm Lahna and I have started an exciting new role as the 16-19s specialist with SchoolsworkUK, as part of Youthscape. Without this sounding like an awkward dating profile; I currently live in London, I love coffee and EDM music and I am hugely passionate about seeing young people's lives transformed.

What did I do to deserve this...?!

Frustration, confusion, rage…. despair … the power of these emotions is such that we can be sorely tempted to close them down. And yet, throughout history, it is often these feelings that have moved people to action. When joined to hope, it is anger that can inspire people to change the world. Without hope, that anger can lead to despair.

How do we create space for young people to engage with these feelings? And how can we offer hope?

Alpha in Schools

March 17, 2016 by Amy Tolmie

Having just arrived as the new youth pastor in 2010, Ray Driscoll wanted to connect with the youth in the area that hadn’t had anything to do with church. Alpha was the obvious choice. He launched it at Emmanuel Church which, through word of mouth, quickly grew and kick-started the church's teen ministry. We spoke to Ray about how this led to taking Alpha beyond the walls of the church:

The Enable: Schools Work course - Gather

May 20, 2015 by Amy Tolmie

At schoolsworkUK we believe that gathering together is a crucial part of supporting one another in this crazy game of life! Whether it is to socialise or to learn, to offer a listening ear or to pass on wisdom gained, coming together as a group of people and bonding around our common purpose of seeing young lives changed because of Jesus is one of the most important things we do.
