Breathe

Large Group Spirituality Resource

Visit the BRAND NEW Breathe webpage here.

Breathe is a resource for the spiritual development of 16-19 year olds, encouraging them to explore and consider themes of belief, journey and values through a series of interactive, experiential meditations and activities.

Using an iPod, students follow 12 short mp3s with corresponding activities to guide their thinking. These, along with the simple practical tasks, make breathe an ideal resource for all types of learner, providing something to satisfy the visual, audio and kinaesthetic minds.
Whilst the meditation texts offer a Christian perspective on these questions, the resource is designed for use in a multi-faith environment, taking care not to offend, nor enforce beliefs on anyone who may use it.

Small Group Spirituality Resource

Visit the Open Webpage here.

Open is a small group resource that looks at eight themes; Meaning, Values, Purpose, Forgiveness, Death, Responsibility, Questions and Hypocrisy. Each theme uses a practical activity to open up the topic, with an mp3 introducing the subject, raising some open questions and introducing some relevant thinking and wisdom from Christianity too. Each Open box can be used with up to 6 young people, and a set of boxes can be used with a whole class.

The resource is specifically written for use in a multi-faith school environment, and as such is carefully crafted to be accessible to pupils from any faith background. There's space in each session for students to listen, reason and respond to the material, whether they agree or disagree with what they hear.

22 pieces of art by Si Smith take students through the biblical story of Job. A story filled with depictions of rage, despair and hope; three emotions 16-19 year olds are all too familiar with.

The DVD is accompanied by an audio narrative, exploring the emotions and events in the story in an accessible and engaging way. Included are lesson materials looking at existentialism, wisdom and comparing the story of Job in Christian, Jewish and Islamic texts, and workshops offering a creative response to rage, hope and despair through poetry, art, music, rap and drama.

Sitting across from a year 10 girl recently in a one to one mentoring session, I was praying for the gift of interpretation as she was divulging feelings based on her experiences but using language that was almost foreign to me! We all know the words young people use change frequently but in some cases it's almost ridiculous!

Exciting new project working with potential NEET young people (not in education, employment or training). Run by Emma Cromwell at LCET, she went out and sourced stories of young adults who had experienced what it meant to be NEET, who were passionate about sharing their stories with other young people still in education, to stop them making the same mistakes. discover; explore; conserve; share - these are the four values of the John Muir Award. An award setup to encourage young people to discover God's beautiful creation, explore all it's wonder, conserve and protect the wildlife they find and then share their story with all who will listen. Are environmental issues connected to spiritual issues? Can the good news of Jesus and His Kingdom embrace a message about recycling and conservation? Could our schools work incorporate an eco-campaign?
