Monday 10th Dec, 2007 in: Community Blog by Jon Jolly

Last week I took a 15 minute assembly for Year 7 in a Secondary School on the theme of Poverty. This session was only meant as a basic introduction to the theme, so is deliberately lightweight but is designed to get the children thinking about their own personal response to poverty this Christmas.

Someone at the Churches Advertising Network has got really creative this past Christmas and produced two fab radio ads. They’re only 30 seconds but they’re begging to be used in an assembly. Listen and see what you think. Football is my favourite!

Christmas is coming…

I had my first exposure of Coca Cola’s Christmas advert on TV last night, which, by the looks of various Twitter comments, seems to be a real sign that Christmas is on its way! We’re starting to think about advent assemblies, Christmas assemblies and other ways that we can engage students in schools in exploring the story of Christmas in meaningful ways. Soon there will be new Christmas resources available for 2009 here on the site, but in the meantime, we want to get some discussion going here on the site and point out a couple of resources we really like.

Many of us will be doing Christmas assemblies this month, hosting Christmas parties for our extra-curricular groups, teaching lessons, speaking in carol services….and probably lots of other festive things where we have the opportunity to share about the love of God through Christ coming into the world.

If you’re looking for ideas, inspiration, stories or practical illustrations, we’ve done our best to create the ultimate Christmas resource list for you. This post won’t contain every single Christmas resource that is out there, but is schoolswork.co.uk’s pick of favourite links and ideas…
