It Doesn’t Have To Happen
A new initiative to help tackle the ever increasing problem of knife crime was launched by David Beckham and other footballers in a press conference on monday. The ‘It Doesn’t Have To Happen’ campaign urges young people not to carry knives, and has a bebo page for young people who want to take positive action against knives.
Last Saturday another 16 year old boy was stabbed to death after attending a party in Manchester. Since the government launched its Tackling Knives Action Programme back in June, more than 55,000 people have been stopped and searched, the government Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has announced.
In London alone, the number of people charged with possession of a knife or blade since April has increased by 150 per cent compared to the same period in 2007.
