The Egg Trick
In January’s Youthwork Magazine, the favourite schoolswork resource was all about using eggs in assembly. We’ve done a short film to illustrate his trick here, which is quite simply standing on eggs without breaking them.

You can do a fun smashing an egg over your head bit beforehand to illustrate that they are real eggs, and then step up onto the eggs. Build it up into this big ‘eggsperiment’, and use it for all sorts of applications. Rich was talking about making a difference in the school, and how doing things on our own we don’t seem to make much difference and possibly ‘weak’ in some respects, but when we work together with others we can be strong.
Adventures in the small stuff
In January’s Youthwork Magazine we featured a resource that fits really well in a January assembly. It explores the idea of what it means to be on an adventure using the Pixar film UP, and the accompanying slideshow is here for you to download.
Not what my school can do for me…
The closing reflection to the assembly featured in the September Youthwork Magazine is now available. Using an idea from JFK’s inaugral speech in 1961, it helps pupils think about what they can give to their schools this year. Based on the famous line “not what your country can do for you, what can you do for your country?”, we ask students to consider ‘not what your school can do for you, what can you do for your school?’.
Taming the Tongue
The tongue assembly, or the ‘World’s Most Dangerous Weapon’ assembly, has been written up here for anyone who missed it in the February Youthwork magazine.
Communication Assembly
The assembly resource in the May 2009 Youthwork magazine was about communication. We explored the idea of not being understood and the importance of good communication. Here is an image that you can use to conclude the assembly with a few questions to help the young people reflect on your message. It would work well with a quiet track played underneath, to encourage them to ask themselves how they can both be better listeners and better communicators.
Treat Yourself
In the April Youthwork magazine, we included an assembly resource for the exam period encouraging young people to ‘TREAT’ themselves. Here is the accompanying keynote/powerpoint presentation.

taylormation!

Here’s a new DVD resource called ‘The taylormation Toolbox’. It contains 8 short, moral based films designed to be used as ice breakers and focal points either in a school assembly, church service or youth work. It comes with a free teaching pack and works with the SEAL scheme and different Key Stages. See the site for more information.
Christmas adverts
Someone at the Churches Advertising Network has got really creative this past Christmas and produced two fab radio ads. They’re only 30 seconds but they’re begging to be used in an assembly. Listen and see what you think. Football is my favourite!
Instant animated movies

xtranormal is a new site that lets you create animated movies without any previous experience! Basically, you type in what you want characters to say, choose what they’ll look like and where the caerma will be and, before you know it, there’s a movie! I think has two real possibilities: one is giving young people the chance to make a movie as part of a project in, say, an RE lesson. The other is making movies that you can use in a presentation during a lesson or assembly. The site has plenty of examples of movies that have already been created and, whilst it’s not Pixar, the look is quite impressive. With a little practice you could put together something very cool. Have a go and see what you think!
Coin Trick
In the latest Youthwork Magazine we gave you some ideas to use in assemblies based on money. There are loads of themes you can draw out of these, or purely use them for fun, but here’s the vid demonstrating the coin trick and an explanation of how it’s done.
Enjoy!
