We Love Nelson Mandela :)
Like Sigur Ros, Iceland, films to make you think?
Then you’ll love this film.
I watched the best film ever in the world (well ok, one of the best - I rate it alongside Children of Men, Blood Diamond and Hotel Rwanda) at church last night.
“The Girl In The Cafe” (2005)
I got over the fact that it was by Richard Curtis pretty fast (I’m not the biggest fan of Four weddings)
Anyway, the scripting, construction of characters, narrative and cinematography all made for a really engaging film. Set mostly at the G8 in Reykjavik this is a gentle love story with a strong message to stand up for what you believe in.
It tackles third world poverty in an informative, non preachy way and keep your eyes peeled for some resources on the site. My sister works for the World Development Movement and we were talking today about how we could integrate this film into a lesson resource or something for an RE or Citizenship day.
“Poverty is not natural. It is man made and can be overcome by the actions of human beings.”
-- Nelson Mandela
There is some great stuff on the HBO website about it, interesting background and interviews

Ok, once you log off the site GO AND WATCH THE FILM!!!!!! So much better than most of the stuff on LCD (Lowest Common Denominator) tv nowadays.
I’m going to go and buy it right now to watch again, and buy it to give to other people.
