New to the site?
This website was founded in 2007 to help connect Christian visitors to schools with each other, great resources, inspiration to think creatively and with opportunities for training. Two years into the project we have decided that we can improve the website by giving you the ability to customise your homepage. This feature and a whole lot more will be ready by Spring 2010. We’re busy designing and writing new material to make this site more helpful to you in your work,
but for now the site is still bursting to the seams with ideas..
- read through the blog on the homepage to see what schoolsworkers are talking about, asking questions about or experiences they are sharing
- look through the resource toolkit to find ready to use ideas in your lessons, assemblies or other activites in school (each entry on the toolkit is an element that you can build into your activities rather than a whole plan in itself…we find that most people are looking for elements that they can customise to better suit their school)
- our thinking pages have a range of articles designed to inspire you to think differently and creatively about how you impact your local schools
- make yourself at home, take a look around and if there’s something you’re after that you can’t find, write us an entry on the blog, or drop me an .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) letting me know how we can better help you
Ultimately schoolswork.co.uk exists because we want to see more, better and different schoolswork in schools across the UK. Not that we’ve got all the answers…we just want to be able to learn together!
Come and be part of the vision…already more than 1000 of you have become members, and once you do that (for free) you’ll be able to access member-only resources and will be entered on our member’s map.

I’m new to this blogging and look forward to finding out more about it! I am particularly interested in school assemblies. I am a Methodist Local Preacher, but take school assemblies from time to time in our local C of E Primary School. Anyone who has experience in this field I would love to hear from you. I think this new iniative is an excellent idea - I hope it gets all the support and use it deserves. God bless.
Great innovation. Look forward to sharing school assembly expereinces. Some of the challenges Christian fellowship planters in schools face is religious differences in schools. How can one overcome this?
I think working with young people from different faiths is such a vital thing for us all to think about. Whether that be mentoring a young person, teaching an RE class or taking a school assembly. We are always going to come across those with differing beliefs, and one way to look at it and the starting point for me, is to always see these young people as inidividuals, as unique creations. I think it’s so easy to label a young person, and if we are able to see alongside the hajib, the headscarves, the WWJD bands, we begin to see the whole person. In a classroom or assembly hall, the next step is to ask ‘how can I best communicate my message in a way that opens their minds and hearts without blocking anyone out’. I’ve found that using a thought with a story, and then some very open questions about their beliefs and values helps them to respond to the assembly/lesson without driving a wedge that may cause offence. Young people/children from any background need to know they are accepted and this is where we must start from. It excites me that we can just love young people for who they are, and be interested in their faith, and allow them to share that with us without fear of judgment. Let’s encourage young people to talk about their faith experiences.
Please see Smeee’s blog entry on working with other faiths. He points us to some great resources that are definitely worth checking out.
Thanks for all the hard work in setting the website up!
Looks fantastic, really helpful! Thanks!
Just thought i would say Amy and the gang at schoolswork.co.uk are doing a great job with schoolswork and just want to say congratulations on the dream start!
I’m amazed by the work you have done, it is helping me a lot with my new business.
Schoolswork.co.uk has and will continue to make massive impact in many schools and companies. Congratulations Guys.
I am Teaching Studies of Religion. I am keen to gain fresh ideas for the senior school. Some of your topics look very interesting so I am interested in exploring your website some more.
I wondered whether any of your infant or primary school teachers would be interested in a great new resource for assemblies, etc. I’ve written a new book called Heaven’s Humpties, where I have taken 46 traditional nursery rhymes and, retaining the same scansion, rhyming and rhythm, I have adapted them for Christian teaching. There is also a double CD where I have recited all the rhymes on one CD and, on the other, half of them are sung by (with others) John Perry, who used to sing with the Beatles and with Cliff Richard. Many teachers and young people’s workers have told me they are uniquely useful! They are also great fun, and appreciated by primary school children, older children and adults alike. Find out more on my website http://www.whole-in-one.org.uk.
I phoned Premier Radio and was told about this website by the Editor of YouthWork Magazine. I am really looking forward to using some of the material in my work and just want to say a big well done and thank you to all who make this site a possibility every single day. God really is so so creative, isn’t He? Thank you once again.
Thanks Kemi, hope you find useful things here and we look forward to hearing about the work you are doing in schools. God bless, Amy

hi Guys
I have been a member for a while and each time I go to leave a comment I get side tracked by all the amazing tips and stories on the site.
Thanks for all the exciting and inspiring resources.
I am keen to get started using some of them and sharing some of the new ones I have used over the past year or so.
Thanks for your comment Wendy, we look forward to hearing about the things you’d like to share! God bless you in your work, Amy
Hi guys,
I’ve been on here a while and I’ve just tried to leave a comment on the blood sweat & t-shirts blog & it’s not letting me saying I’m not authorised to do this. Any ideas why it won’t let me?
Just had a quick look at site, looks very exciting , will certainly pass it on.
Hello the schoolswork team!
A belated THANK YOU for the most excellent ‘Story-telling’ day you held at the LICC recently.
Probably one of the best Christian training days that I have ever attended. I have been inspired to live my life telling stories. Be the story-teller that our Lord creates us each to be: For His Kingdom and His Glory.
Keep up the brilliant work.
Cheers Mish,
You did brilliantly in the assembly session! Good to have you along on the day.
Amy
Hi guys!
Thanks to you all for the hard work you put into the Youthwork conference. Eastbourne was amazing!
Your stand was a big draw! Great to see Lillie again! All the best for the future Lillie and I haven’t forgotten my promise to submit some stuff for you. I will also post you a copy of “Pray Another Day” the film our summer residential gang made on the “Double Oh Heaven” camp in August.
Thanks again, now go home and get some well earned rest!
I am just retired as a University Chaplain and lecturer and I believe this gives a clue to finding a very helpful resources based on ‘story telling’ for many who teach in our schools. Personal stories are very useful and need to be there to back up more intellectual arguments.
Howard.
Hi I am a teacher (formerly a youth and schoolsworker) now based in Barking, East London. I would love to make contact with youth and schools workers in the area who might be able to come into the secondary school where I work.
