Drugs Lessons?
Thursday 18th Sep, 2008 in: Secondary by Sam Harris
Right well the Prejudice lessons aren’t a problem as I have enough material to teach the lesson, although any fresh material would not be turned down :).
The main thing I would like help with is the drugs lesson. Does anyone have any materials or lesson plans on drugs and what Christians think about them ( I know it’s obvious a big no no!) but I want to make this lesson fun and something that the youth can take in and remember.
Thanks for the help and God Bless
Sam

Hi Sam,
An interesting way of starting a prejudice lesson is to get 8 or so large prints of different faces (e.g. A3 size) and pin them up around a classroom. Then write 8 different words on the board (e.g. homeless / orphan / divorced / murderer / doctor / student / depressed) and they have to match the word with the picture by writing the word on a post it note and sticking it on the picture they think fits the word.
It’s interesting collecting the pictures in and opening up a discussion about why we see poeple a certain way, and very often when we find out what is underneath the smile or the frown it might be different to what we’re expecting.
A good opener anyways!
have you ever read cameroin dante’s book acension? its all about the drugs he used to take- could get some interesting quotes? you could ask people why they take drugs and maybe look at bible verses where it says god provides those things? (that off top of head - sorry) eg. it makes people peaceful, its about fulnes of life etc etc. or you can play guess the drug- depends what age group but i always find it interesting whether or not the kidz actually know what the drug looks like. just some quick thoughts sorry!
you could do a combination of different quizzes to introduce the topic, e.g. drugs quiz : true or false handout sheet; drugs wordsearch sheet ; drug annagrams . I would also include some facts about drugs and then I would use a testimony of an ex drug user (maybe there is a Christian in your local area or a DVD film clip of an ex-drug user).
Hope that helps
thanks very much for the ideas :) , I will put them to good use
