Are you going along? I’ll be there, will be good to connect with you and others who might be going…
just also thought, we always start with highs and lows of hte week which has really helped build community into our group and gives a chance for others to see how everyone is doing. sometimes we don’t get much else don’t but it’s become a good place to vent and also celebrate with each other on the good stuff. it’s also a way to get thinking about prayer cos it’s always easy to start by using the highs and lows as a place to start talking to God
hey
really good resources we use at church are ‘seasons of the spirit’ strucured but with different activities so you can pick what’ll work best.
really good background info and follows the lectionary so you’re following what the main church is doing (if you use that!)
sometimes i use the sessions as they are, somtimes i just use the background stuff and worksheets and create sessions.
material is really good cos it comes in various age groups with a number of kids/teen age groups, as well as adult and all age stuff. niceness
Hi Mimi
Sounds like your feeling very ground down, I want to encourage you, as although the sessions are hard work, they young people keep coming back, and that in itself is amazing!!
I don’t work with ‘churched’ young people, but do understand the difficulties in introducing people who don’t understand how church works to that environment. Rock Solid material might be worth a look, it’s aim is to be fast paced, keep them on the go, have a bit of discussion but play lots of games. It’s aimed at young people 11-14, when discussion can be hard work as they are not used to it or ready for it. Have you asked them what topics they’d like to cover?
I go to a church plant in the middle of quite a rough estate, and young people have started coming to it. One way the church has developed relationships with them, especially the boys is through introducing a lighting rig, which the boys are trained to use. What are the young people interested in? Use it to your advantage.
Maybe something mid week might be more appropriate then a Sunday morning? More relaxed and informal.
I think your doing a grand job
Hope that helps
God bless
Gemma
Looks really good. Thanks for flagging this up.
Hi guys,
I’ve been on here a while and I’ve just tried to leave a comment on the blood sweat & t-shirts blog & it’s not letting me saying I’m not authorised to do this. Any ideas why it won’t let me?
To know that big companies are exploiting third world countries like this makes me feel sick in my spirit. I recently went to India on mission and it certainly changed my life. Does anyone know of an organisation I can contact who is against all this?
As someone involved in producing explore its great to get this feedback. We would love this to be the kind of resource that enhances existing schoolswork and also gives credibility to any groups seeking more involvement at RE. For more info see http://www.exploreforschools.co.uk
Thanks Amy, I knew I’d seen it somewhere! :)
Hi Gemma, yes Wayne Dixon blogged about this conference back in march. see his entry here for details: http://schoolswork.co.uk/blog/entry/schools-workers-conference/

God Still Speaks Through Donkeys !
I know it can be chaotic when working with children, but He wants to speak; if we would just learn to listen.
LightLive
LightLive gives children’s and youth leaders free-of-charge access to a weekly syllabus of downloadable material following Scripture Union’s Light programme, for groups aged up to 14. It also gives access to all-age materials.
Global lesson breaks world records!
Send My Friend is a great campaign by Action Aid, getting young people to highlight the plight of the 72 million children who are missing out on education around the world. It’s campaigning at it’s most imaginative and it’s last project looks set to shoot into the Guinness Book of Records!
Assemblets
The Assemblies Website has coined the term ‘assemblet’, which describes an essential feature of school assemblies. They are ‘short, snappy stories with a clear effective message’. I hadn’t come across this term before today, maybe I missed class that day, but it helps me to think again about collecting a bunch of ‘assemblets’ to have up my sleeve for when I’m asked to do an assembly at the last minute. Here’s one I liked…
Transition to Secondary
I’m looking to develop something for year 6 children for their transition to secondary school, and thinking of workshops and lessons with a Christian emphasis.
April Fools Day
Anyone got any ideas? games/activities/stories or discussion....being a fool for christ?!
Extended Schools
I wanted to start a discussion about extended schools work, what work is already going on, what resources are available and what would people like to see happen?
Children and Bereavement
Another great BBC programme, this time on radio 4.
The Primary
Last week the BBC showed an interesting programme about a primary school with pupils from 17 different ethnic backgrounds. I was a bit slow cottoning on to it, but it is available on bbc iplayer for one more day.
