ooooh i like that, i might use them for mentoring materials!”

oh i feel so loved! i’m not sure i’d be doing my job though if all that happened chris!!

Let me be the second! Happy New Year. Hope schools workers everywhere are having some good chillaxing time before the new term begins. Here’s to a fantastic year of seeing transformation, growth, renewal and hope in the lives of young people we work with. Cheers!

Another story that might be appropriate is the story of a black South African woman who has forgiven and befriended a white South African policeman who tortured and murdered her husband and son.

Hope this might help.

One that springs to mind is a story that is about 2 brothers...read about it here. It might need simplyfying a bit for primary, but it’s a really powerful question...imagine if the two brothers had made up their differences and not opted for retaliation...they would have been a force to be reckoned with! And the thought that we sometimes fall into the trap of trying to get our own back, when often if we talk things through and work out our differences, everyone can benefit…

Hi Tom, there was a picture that one of the team put together...however on reflection we didn’t want to scare people away from the site ;). And yep, this isn’t the last you’ve seen of the Murphy. Blessings.

Response to the exhibition has been incredible. Lots of people have been through during the week, and we have had to open up for an extra day tomorrow. Here are some pictures on the BBC news website: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/7775107.stm.

I am just retired as a University Chaplain and lecturer and I believe this gives a clue to finding a very helpful resources based on ‘story telling’ for many who teach in our schools. Personal stories are very useful and need to be there to back up more intellectual arguments.

Howard.

Justice - can we really change the world?

Monday 29th Sep, 2008 in: Secondary by Helen

The August Youthwork magazine was all about Justice – and asked the question can young people really change the world?  I’ve recently realised that we’re living in a time where changing the world is more possible than ever, that for the first time in history we have the technology, resources and know-how to get rid of extreme poverty, we just need to give our young people opportunities to grasp. So here’s one for you….

Anger Management?

Sunday 28th Sep, 2008 in: Secondary by Gorgeous Girl

Hi, my name’s Wendy and I work therapeutically with groups of students in schools. I wanted to share with you some of the thinking behind the change in direction of the ‘Anger Management’ groups we facilitate.  For many years we have run anger management groups in Luton’s secondary schools, but recently have begun to question the effectiveness of such groups. Read on for some background and an introduction to the form the new groups are going to take.

Your favourite school film

Monday 15th Sep, 2008 in: Other by Amy Stock

When I think of schools on camera, my mind immediately goes to the Grange Hill theme tune which was a regular feature in my childhood. When it comes to films however they don’t spring as readily to mind. But, looking through a recent list of the top 40 school films, I was surprised at how many I had actually seen and some of them even enjoyed!

Here’s info about a competition being run by Teachers TV in association with Film Club and some comments from the Guardian about the top school film.

“she tie-jacked me”

Tuesday 9th Sep, 2008 in: Secondary by Amy Stock
TAGS: bullying,

Walking through the school canteen this lunchtime I was met with cries of “tie-jack”...I wasn’t sure if this was a new greeting or whether there was a summer crush one of them had on a boy called Jack from Thailand. so, I put my observational skills to work and soon discovered they were referring to a form of bullying called ‘tie-jacking’ (btw is this new or am I really slow to catch on???). getting into conversation with some of the girls I find this is both bullying and also seen as a bit of fun between friends. hmmm, not sure it’s ever just a bit of fun…
