Give me a tenner and I’ll rummage in me old wheelie bin if you like!? ;-)
ok so following on with my search of the ridiculous, I found someone who sells garbage from NYC trash cans for $50!! check out the site, it’s a cool looking site: http://www.nycgarbage.com/. one man’s rubbish, another man’s living!
i saw it in a charity shop in Hitchin! found it on the web here: http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/nothing/index.html
Wow, this has got to be a lesson or assembly illustration in the making. Somebody figure something out!
What shop can you get this in?
Interesting - the youth justice definition of a ‘gang’ is a group of young people with a common goal /identity to be involved in activities that are against the law.
I gather you will be involved in detached youth work?
It’s a good idea to contact youth service/council to see if they do detached work in your local area that involves working with gangs/.
Richard Passmore has written a good book on starting detached work from scratch.(You can get it through the Frontier Youth Trust)
In my experience to work with gangs we need to spend time in prayer and make sure you get the church praying for you.
go out in 2s(male and female).
what I’ve found important is to get to know young people on streets in a non- preachy way. So you can start to get to know the young people. it might take 12 months to gain their trust.
here’s a story from my experience - a group of young people (townie young people) as they identified themselves as. They were hanging out on streets and sometimes involved in anti social behaviour. 3 yrs ago I started playing sports with them on the streets and in the fields. I began building relationships with young people and gaining their trust. 6 months on we started a sports project that that promoted team building and self esteem and healthy lifestyles. the project has gone from strength to strength . we have also taken the young people to residentials with outdoor sports and an evangelistic celebration. Aswell we have organised football tournament and matches with church and Christian organisations. Some of the young people now attend our youth cafe where they learn life skills.
None of them have given their life to Christ yet but they come back every week and have good relationships with youth leaders.
Just recently, CO-OP gave the project some funds so every child can have a full football kit with their name/nickname and chosen number on their shirt. This makes them feel special and important.
The young people ask questions about the Christian faith but are not yet ready to make a commitment to Christ. We know through the Holy Spirit God in his timing will open young people’s hearts. One thing we will do is give them confidence in their abilities that helps them now and in their future.
This work is great as it is making a difference in young people’s lives and gives them a hope - but also in long term youth work.
I hope this encourages you in the area of working with gangs. just a thought: I don’t think God sees these young people as gangs but young people created in the image of God
and unique and special.

Getting involved in National Anti Bullying (17-21 Novemeber) day has worked really well for us at LCET, looking behind the message at who we are, how we treat each other and working out what the Bible says about that. It’s also a great opportunity this year to look at some multi faith work as the theme is “being different, belonging together”.
Also it seems to me that kids are finding it harder to establish and keep friendships going, we have a great opportunity to model and mentor them in this area and I think ‘building good relationships’ is a nice positive spin on ‘not bullying’.
oh my word! i’m such a impulse buyer and that would get me! haha a slave to consumerism! lol no thats not right, it reminds me of the free air guitar advert!
hi kathleen,
it sounds like a fab project. i have been a singing coach in the past and worked with some young people on a connexions uk project a couple years ago. if you have any questions about basic warm ups or technique workshops i have some tried and tested methods.
secondly i’m a theatre and performance graduate and did several modules in storytelling and if you can give me a context i’ll trawl through my notes and resources!

School Holidays
The final bell of summer term has rung for our schools, and now for schoolswork.co.uk…
School’s out, camp has been and gone and there’s now 6 weeks until the new term in September.
For the next few weeks there will be minimal input on the site as the schoolswork.co.uk team (and the poor Macbook which suffers each day) take a little break.
We’re looking forward to some site updates that will be up and running for the new term, but for now may we say what a pleasure it’s been setting up the site this year and getting to know so many of you in this online community. We’re looking forward to loads of exciting developments and projects which we’ll post about in due course.
Have a wonderful and well deserved break over the summer...Please do feel free to browse and use the site, this is just a note to say there won’t be much activity from the office of schoolswork.co.uk over the next few weeks.
(Things will all be back up and running on the 18th August. Any emails will be picked up then as the laptop is going in for some much needed TLC!).
If anyone’s at New Wine this week, maybe see you there!
God bless,
Amy & the team

H2P4 Schools
How to pray for (h2p4) is a new resource from ALOVE UK and 24/7SA, to get young people thinking about prayer and to get them praying! Glyn Harries, a schoolswork.co.uk member has written a guide called H2P4 Schools.
End of year assemblies
Doing an end of term assembly? Already done some? It would be great to hear stories of what’s going on in people’s experiences. I know the end of term is probably only a matter of days away now, but I know some people are still looking for last minute ideas for an assembly, so it would be good to share some if we have them…

I came across a great site today that creates videos for you! You just upload pictures and let it do it’s thing. I was playing around with some video ideas for school and made a few 30 second videos. Here’s one for schoolswork.co.uk. Admittedly calling them videos may be going a bit far, it basically sequences your photos for you and sets them to music!
